Procedure Of Court Marriage In Rural India


  • Intended Marriage Notification- The Filing Of The Notification Of Intending Marriage Is The First Stage In A Court Marriage In Rural Areas. The Registrar Of Marriage Of The Districts Where At Least One Of The Couples Has Lived For A Period Of 30 Days Immediately Preceding The Date Such Notice Is Provided Must Receive Notice From The Parties To The Marriage In A Prescribed Format.

The Court Marriage Procedure Will Come To An End If The Marriage Registrar Determines That The Raised Objection Is Valid. However, If The Officer Determines That The Objection Is Unfounded, The Registration Process For Court Marriage Will Continue.

  • Declaration Of The Parties And The Witnesses- Before Getting Married, The Couple Must Sign The Application Form Of The Court Marriage With The Testimony Of Three Witnesses, Attesting That They Are Marrying Voluntarily.

  • Marriage Solemnization- The Marriage Registrar's Office Or Any Other Location Within Such A Reasonable Distance May Be Used To Solemnize A Marriage If The Couple So Wishes. If The Marriage Is Performed Somewhere Else, An Additional Charge Will Be Paid Along With The Application Form.

  • Obtaining Marriage Certificate- After The Marriage Has Been Solemnized In Accordance With The Norms Of The Special Marriage Act; The Marriage Registrar Records The Information In The Marriage Record And Issues The Marriage Certificate. After The Parties' And Witnesses' Signatures, The Certificate Of Court Marriage Serves As Proof Of The Couple's Legal Marriage.
